"We spent two days in the detention centre of Réau, to speak about food and cooking with the inmates. We already knew the importance of sport in jail as it’s often documented in film in photography. But cooking has a crucial place behind the bars. So we discussed with some of the prisoners about how it’s organised, how to buy from the canteen. They also told us about family recipes. And we also just had a chat about life. Because in this penitentiary-structure with long-term-prisoners, you can go back to school, learn about baking, cooking and horticulture."
(This photoreport had the constraint of keeping the inmates kind of anonymous and avoiding frontal portraits.)
